HEALTH
AND SAFETY
Health and safety is a top priority for UNISON.
Last year more than one million injuries and 258 deaths were reported
in the workplace. 24.3million working days were lost and over
27,000 people were forced to give up work due to injury. Since
1999 UNISON has won over £40 million in compensation for
members involved in work-related personal injury cases.
In a recent survey most UNISON members identified
health and safety as the most important workplace issue for them.
As the largest public service union UNISON is at
the forefront of campaigns on issues such as stress at work and
violence in the workplace.
RCT Branch is very active in the area of Health
and Safety, with a Branch Health and Safety Committee, numerous
Safety Reps, representation on Joint Safety Committees with management
throughout the Authority and an extensive training programme for
reps.
