Branch Committee Minutes

Tuesday 1st December 2009

 

Present:

Peter Crews, Kevin Jouvenat, David Smith, Helena Watson, Anita Lewis, Graham Evans, , Ron Eveleigh, Glenn Jones, Terry Evans, Mike Williams, Dilys Jouvenat  

1. Apologies

Belinda Jeffries, Kate Jeffries, Paul Rowlands, Andrew Conn, Graham Emery, Ceri Mogridge, Gail Jones, Angela Pring, Dean Price 

2. Minutes of Last Meeting

After an adjustment to 4.3 the minutes were accepted for accuracy

[4.3 Social Workers rather than Social Care Workers] 

Branch chair HW opened the meeting and proposed that flowers and chocolates be sent to Kate Jeffries, Young members officer, who is currently ill.

Committee decided that Branch officers reports would be discussed at next committee meeting, issues needing decisions only were discussed. 

3. Matters Arising

4.1.3 DJ to write article on Billy Liddon for December branch-line. 

9.2.1 Anti Fascist Campaign

As decided at Regional Council a core co-ordinating group meeting was held yesterday, PC attended. A strategic approach had been implemented to deal with media and pre election preparation. PDC group will be writing to all branches PC to distribute this info. 

4.4 The Wave Demo London 5/12/09

Confirmation needed ASAP of those wanting to attend. DS to be informed by 02/12/09. 

4.8 APSE performance Management 3-4 Dec Blackpool

DS was due to attend but couldn’t due to workload 

5.6 Retired Members Meeting

RE reported that the meeting on 26/11/09 was a success with an overall attendance of 17 people including the Mayor and a guest speaker from Age Concern. All

5.6.1 The retired members proposed RE as Retired members officer for forthcoming AGM. RE gave personal thanks to Gwyn Rickard and Lindsey Stewart for their help in organising the event.

A date was arranged for the next meeting 28/01/2010. 

7.4.1 Dealing with the Media course

TE had acquired course paperwork to run a 2 day course in dealing with the media via Gareth John, Regional Education Officer.

PC informed committee of proposed media training to be run early next year across the region as discussed at Local Gov committee. 

5.8 Branch Welfare Officer Training

Committee were reminded of the forthcoming course taking place in Bristol 16. 30-31 March 2010. Applications to be submitted by 26/01/2010.

 

4.0 Branch Secretary’s Report

4.1 Regional Council Feb 2010

4.1.1 Election of Branch Delegates to Cymru/Wales Regional Council.

It was decided that reserve seat nominations be submitted for Anita Lewis; Helen Jones, Ceri Mogridge and Debbie Trick. 

4.2 Motions for Regional Council (Deadline for submission 4/12/09)

MW proposed that the branch support Caroline Bedale Manchester Health Trust and provided a brief overview of the case.

(DJ left the meeting at this point)

4.2.1 After a lengthy discussion it was decided that no decision be taken in support of this motion. 

4.3 All Wales Council Summary Report

Document available at branch office for viewing.

 

4.4 Social Work Staff

A task force had been set up in Wales. Conditions of service and pay big issues for social workers at present. A series of meetings would be taking place next week to discuss these issues. 

4.5 APSE Vetting and Barring Scheme.

Courses being in run in Manchester and Bristol

Committee discussed on-going concerns over ISA (copies of ISA booklet were handed out) it was decided that PC will attend the course. 

4.6 Police & Fire Service Partnerships Group Meeting 9 Dec 09

It was decided that Alex Clark of SWFRS will be asked to attend. 

4.7 AGM 04/03/2010

Forthcoming AGM to be held in Pontypridd Rugby Club. Format to be changed where one meeting instead of several will be held and will combine with a social event such as a quiz and disco.

4.7.1 Committee discussed reinforcement of AGM rules,

DJ to seek advice from HQ on new NEC rules which will be discussed in detail at forthcoming NDC meeting, in prep for AGM.

 

5. Branch Officer Reports

5.1 KJ explained new rules surrounding honoraria expenses which will be proposed and issued at AGM in March. 

5.3 Branch Newsletter

TE reminded committee that articles needed to be submitted asap to be included in the Christmas Issue. Any articles to be emailed/sent to admin by Monday. 

5.4 Women’s Officer - AL reported that Luisa Bridgman had given approval for Computer taster classes to be held at Bronllwyn. Dates and times to be confirmed.

7. Branch Project Report

Dates and times for future meetings to be confirmed

 

8. Membership and Recruitment Reports

Current membership totals for the branch were discussed. Total membership across all employers was 5117.

8.1 Committee were reminded of recruitment leaflets and materials available at the branch to encourage new joiners.

 

9. Any Other Business

9.1 Green Dragon Report – The report is currently on hold due to restructures etc within the authority.
